Best Advice On Beauty

She’s been there, done that. She has been keeping up with her own beauty since way before you were even born. Your Grandma might have a thing or two to share about how to take care of yourself. After all her experience has gotten her this far hasn’t it? Here is a round up of the best beauty advice Grandma’s everywhere are giving out to their families, recipes included as well!

Blisters Beware:

Blisters are caused by your skin rubbing against your shoe, and it is made worse by sweating. An old wives’ tale is to apply deodorant to your feet to prevent blisters, and it actually works! Just as deodorant eases and can in some cases prevent sweating it has the same effect on your feet. So next time your putting on your favorite shoes that unfortunately give you blisters just apply deodorant to the back of your foot and soles and you’ll be good to go.

Grandma’s Advice On Getting Rid Of Dandruff:

Have a pesky dandruff problem? Best advice on beauty from old wives is to get rid of it with apple cider vinegar. The vinegar’s acidity reduces the natural pH of the scalp. This creates an unfriendly environment for yeast that tend to overpopulate the head and cause dandruff.

The Recipe: Mix ½ cup of apple cider vinegar with one quart of water and use as a  final rinse after shampooing twice a week.

Old Wives’ Mayonnaise Mask For Soft, Shiny Hair:

This best beauty advice from Grandmas actually works! It helps to smooth, hydrate and nourish and it’s inexpensive. Be sure to use the real kind and leave it on for at least an hour. The egg yolk in the mayonnaise has lecithin, which is supposed to encourage hair growth. The vinegar is good for exfoliating the scalp and the oils are great for conditioning. This mask is very nourishing for damaged hair. If you straighten, blow dry or dye your hair this is a great mask for corrective healing.

The Recipe: 1 cup mayonnaise, 1 egg, 1 to 2 teaspoons oil (olive, coconut, almond, jojoba, etc.) optional. Mix the ingredients together when they are at room temperature and apply to warm wet hair (use warm to hot water to get your hair moist and warm.) Cover your hair and let your hair absorb the mask for for 1-2 hours. Wash hair immediately. This mask may leave an odor and you might want to wash your hair twice. The results will be hair that is moisturized and healed.

The Cucumber Eye Treatment:

The best beauty advice for your eyes according to old wives was to apply cucumber slices. The claim was that cucumber slices would relieve swollen, puffy eyes. Cucumbers primarily work to reduce puffiness because they’re cold and moist. That being said, they do work and are cheap! If you’re not into slicing your eye therapy, though, we have the product for you. LifeCell’s beauty cream for healing eyes has the same benefit of the cool, moisture rich cucumber but also has active ingredients like retinol, vitamin C and nature’s most potent moisturizer, hyaluronic acid to help reduce puffiness and moisturize your whole face!
